Origin, mechanism, and research
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide based on a human gastric-juice sequence, described since 1991-1993 by Predrag Sikiric (University of Zagreb, Croatia), the source of most of its 100+ publications. TB-500 is the synthetic version of a fragment of Thymosin Beta-4, a protein isolated in the 1960s-70s by Allan Goldstein; the full molecule was studied in phase II-III trials by RegeneRx for other uses. Neither has FDA or EMA approval; both are under review by the FDA compounding advisory committee (2026) after being removed from the prohibited list, which does not amount to approval. BPC-157 activates the VEGFR2-Akt-eNOS pathway favoring angiogenesis, while TB-500 regulates cell migration; nearly all the evidence is preclinical, in animal models.
